RoHS Compliance

December 13, 2004

To Our Valued Customers:

This letter is ACT’s way of answering questions you may come across during this transition into RoHS-compliant products. We would like you to understand our position and policy as well as what we are striving to do in order to make this transition beneficial for both ACT and you, our customer.

Please note the qualification of our products toward RoHS compliance is an ongoing process, therefore a timetable stating what products are currently RoHS compliant and when others will be completed will be readily available per request. If you would like to receive a copy of this road map to RoHS, please let us know by phone or email. We can be reached by phone at 800-234-2645 or via email to sales@act1.com.

In order to provide full responsibility and assurance for our products, we will provide a RoHS Certificate of Compliance with each and every shipment of compliant product sent out to you, our customer.

In order to avoid confusion when ordering RoHS-compliant components we have designated that the suffix “R” shall be indicated in the part number, thus allowing no room for confusion between products which are non-RoHS compliant in relation to the superceding RoHS-compliant version of the same component.

ACT also certifies that the only difference between non-RoHS and RoHS items is that RoHS items will not exceed the specified amounts called out for the six elements established in E.U. regulations. Aspects such as electrical characteristics, specifications and performance shall remain the same. It should be noted that the soldering temperature for RoHS compliant components should fall in the range of 250° C minimum to 260° C maximum with a soldering time of 5-10 seconds during wave or reflow soldering. If other soldering methods are to be used, please consult with us prior to implementation for specific input.

We do realize there may come a time when it will be necessary for you to obtain certain information from us, in order to complete your certification of RoHS compliance on the products you are producing. Therefore we will make this information available to you, excluding that which we consider to be confidential, under our standard RoHS information policy. We will not be in a position to provide test reports as these show our procedure regarding materials and formulations we use to make our products. Thus we consider these documents to be trade secrets requiring the proper legal directives, confidentiality and non-disclosure agreements to be on file and in force in order to release this level of information. We will maintain all test reports on file at ACT.

We hope this letter will be helpful in our mutual understanding and joint pursuit of RoHS compliance, helping to make a smoother transition for both of our firms.

Please don’t hesitate to let us know if you have any questions or comments or how we can be of assistance to you and your company.
